Transition Words -

Transition words and phrases help us to organize our writing.  They act as "bridges", helping us cross from one idea to the next.  Here are example of different kinds of transitions you can use.
 

Time-Order Transitions: first, next, then, lastly, finally, before, afterward, soon, meanwhile, earlier, later, in the meantime, immediately, suddenly
 
Cause/Effect Transitions: because, therefore, since, so , as, a result, thus, consequently, due to , if, then, for this reason
 
Location Transitions: above, amid, among, beneath, below, beyond, beside, in front of, next to, opposite, nearby
 
Compare/Contrast Transitions: but, however, on the other hand, also, similarly, by comparison, otherwise, in contrast, in the same way, like, although
